[Affiliate Strategies] Who Are You Really Promoting With Affiliate Marketing?
by BobTheTeacher · Filed Under: Affiliate Marketing · Bob The Teacher Training · Business Building · Discover Affiliate Strategies
I’m continuing to share a few of my favorite strategies to make more money and help more people with affiliate marketing as we approach the Discover Affiliate Marketing Virtual Seminar.
Here’s an argument I hear often when it comes to affiliate marketing:
“Bob – why would I promote someone else’s products and services when I’m trying to promote my own?”
That’s a great question I’d love to answer for you today.
Increase Your KLT Factor
You’ve heard the old adage that people buy from those they “know, like, and trust,” right?
Well the fastest way for people to truly trust you in business is for them to buy from you.
Surprisingly, what I’ve discovered as both a product creator and an affiliate marketer is it doesn’t matter if people buy from you OR from your recommendation! If they are happy with their purchase, they’re more willing to buy from you (or your recommendations) again.
The reverse is also true, too! If they’re disappointed by a product you sell or one you recommend, then your reputation is hurt in their eyes.
So when you promote someone else’s product as an affiliate, you’re still actually promoting yourself. You’re showcasing your expertise in choosing the right products. You’re showing you are the go-to person for answers in your field. And you’re showing a willingness to refer quality products and services, even if you weren’t the one to create them in the first place.
Increase Your Conversions
Another reason your business benefits from affiliate marketing is supporting alternatives to your prospects.
A typical promotion of your own product or service will result in 1 – 10% of your audience saying, “Yes!” That means as many as 99% are saying no.
You could blow them off and hope that they eventually “come to their senses” and buy from you. But you can positively impact their lives by offering an alternative product or service to them.
For example, let’s say you teach people how to make Facebook fan pages so they can attract more clients with social media. You offer a great program where they get to learn how to do it themselves. You have a 5% conversion rate on your promotion to your list.
What do you do with the other 95%?
With affiliate marketing, you can increase your revenue by:
- partnering with someone who creates Fan pages for them
- promoting a different social media training course, such as how to use YouTube or LinkedIn
- share a graphic design resource that creates the banners for a Fan page
Your product or service should be very specific. And then you can recommend complimentary products to those who don’t want what you have right now.
Offer A Bonus To Build Your Relationship
You can also promote yourself while promoting another person’s product or service by offering a bonus to buyers that includes your own products or services.
Essentially, this gives the buyer a “buy one get one free” opportunity.
Done strategically, this will result in a stronger connection to you by those buyers than they’d ever have as a non-customer subscriber.
Perhaps they’d like to do business with you, but simply aren’t sure of the value you offer. But they recognize the “bigger name” product or service you’re recommending. You then provide them with a product or service of your own “for free” that gives them a taste of what it’s like to work with you further.
I’ve done this plenty of times to great effect. In fact, a few of my best coaching clients today first worked with me in a bonus-relationship like this. For example, I’ve provided free coaching sessions to buyers of comprehensive courses to make sure they implement what those courses teach. Afterwards, those buyers are as likely to buy from me next time as they are the other person they bought from to get my bonus.
Build Your Business Faster With Affiliate Marketing
The bottom line is affiliate marketing can be an excellent method of promoting your expertise and value.
