This question came in from the mailbag…
Should I title my blog after my name to establish my brand or a niche specific keyword for SEO (search engine optimization)? -Tim
Here’s my response…
This really depends on your long term goals with the blog.
Do you want to be seen as the expert in this field, or do you want to just focus on getting traffic?
I prefer to be seen as an expert, because that way I can differentiate what I do better. Which is why I have AskBobTheTeacher.com instead of a blog at InternetMarketingLessons or something like that.
The title of the blog is not the only spot for good use of keywords. You can also use the titles of the individual blog posts, the categories, and the pages of your blog to accomplish excellent SEO results.
Ultimately you can have it both ways: have a “you-specific” blog and a topic specific blog. But having 2 heads can be difficult to keep going strong.
Most of what I teach in general encourages you to become the expert. That way if your niche does change and your business evolves, you are still able to build on your reputation instead of starting over from scratch.

Have a great week!

Bob,
Great points about ‘branding’ yourself.
I am doing the same thing over at my website http://www.ron-barrett.com, focusing on a few of the ‘niches’ within Internet Marketing such as working with PLR (Private Label Rights) and email marketing.
It’s good to have a few topics that you are seen as an expert in, instead of just focusing on one. What happens if that particular niche crumbles?
I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future.
Regards,
Ron Barrett
