Teach What You Know And Your Profits Will Grow

Had to rhyme the title of today’s post as a tribute to pitchman Billy Mays who passed away last week – RIP Mr. OxyClean…
Today I’d like to share some thoughts with you about the products and services you are trying to sell, and my preferred method. Which type of business are you in?
If you sell a product, is it…
- a product people consume and need to buy over and over?
- a product people buy once or twice and never need to buy again?
If you sell a service, is it…
- a service people need on an ongoing basis?
- a service people use once or twice and never need again?
Obviously, those products and services that people need to continue buying are better for a long term business than single-purchase.
But both of those still require continued manufacturing or fulfillment – in other words, they require YOU to keep doing more and more work. In fact, the more successful you are, the harder you have to work. This typically also means a lot less freedom in your life.
What about teaching people the system or techniques that you have developed or innovated over time?
This is the essence behind information marketing. And one of the benefits of information marketing is you can include it in your business while you still do the products/services that you already have.
The beauty of information marketing is you can create how-to products that you can sell online without any ongoing costs after their initial creation (aside from minor fees in website hosting).
This means your profit margins are enormously high (like 80-90%), and your risk of developing them are very low.
Information products are things like teleseminars, MP3s, ebooks, video tutorials, etc., that get delivered to your customers through an online system.
It may seem like it’s a lot of work at first, and that you have to know a great deal of technical steps to put all the pieces together.
But the initial steps are actually rather simple, once you’ve identified what it is that you can offer to people.
And if you’re wondering what information do you actually have that others would pay for, realize that “to every third grader, a fourth grader is a god.” (thanks Carrie Wilkerson for that brilliant line).
I remember my first information product was a collection of free advertising resources that I was using to generate leads for a network marketing opportunity. This was very basic stuff, but I had tested things that worked and those that didn’t and I was helping others take a shortcut. Even though I gave that report away, that first product went on to make a lot of money for my business.
To be honest, if I were to do it all over again, I’d probably teach more about classroom management secrets instead. Or how to be a technically savvy teacher.
Regardless, my entire business history for the last 3 years has continued to revolve around this concept of teaching what I know to people who want to know it.
It’s a model I like to call “Teach For Profit” and at some point in the future, I’ll be hosting a seminar that you’ll be invited to.
For now though, you don’t have to wait to learn this kind of a system. That’s because on Friday, Alexis Neely and Dave Dee (who are a lot more successful than me) are holding a free teleseminar that will give you the Teach For Profit model clearly.
I met Alexis and Dave in April – they actually were at my birthday dinner in California with some of my best internet marketing buddies. I had no idea at the time that they were as successful as they are. The basic back story for Alexis is she’s a terrific family law attorney who had a million dollar practice. At the same time, she started teaching other attorneys her systems for getting clients, etc., and that generated ANOTHER million dollar business for her.
So of course the next evolution is for her and Dave (they’re business and romantic partners) to teach you how to teach your know-how to people who want to be more successful.
Here’s what they’re calling this session…
“5 Step Formula to Add 6 Figures to Your Business THIS YEAR, Take Your Business To
The Next Level & Re-Ignite Your Passion While You Do It!”
Register For Free Call With Alexis And Dave
Pretty wordy, I know, but I love that they’ll be helping you leverage your current knowledge instead of having you chase some outlandish money-making scheme or tactic.
What Alexis and Dave teach is ideally for you if you already have a successful business (offline OR online). But even if you’ve had moderate success and can help others who are just starting out, you can benefit from this free teleseminar.
Teach what you know and your profits will grow – I know this to be true because it’s exactly the current that has run through my business for the last 3 years.
Best of all, it’s the one type of business that you can do that nobody can 100% duplicate because YOU are the major piece that people will want.
Get on this call – take lots of notes, and be sure to pay attention to the exact 5-Part blueprint that Alexis and Dave teach you during the training.

p.s. You’ll notice that if you get signed up for this free “teach for profit” call, you’ll be getting your choice of some incredible bonuses, too – just for being on the call. And of course, the third bonus is especially awesome! (guess who it’s from! :)

p.p.s. Alexis is a sought after legal and financial expert. Here’s a video of Alexis on a TV show giving some of her financial & legal tips.

Great blog post Bob.
This concept is an important one. Teaching what you know is a great starting point. For me teaching how to make pizza, was my starting point. I have been able to expand this idea into several different products. You have not only been teaching what you know, but you were able to create your entire marketing concept into the “Bob the Teacher” brand. I always learn great info from you and for that I want to say: thanks.

Hi Bob,
Teach what you know: That is exactly what everyone should do!
If all teachers taught what they loved and knew, we would have such successful students. Our “profits” would include the benefits we give others as well as financial profits.
By sharing what we know best (and love) you and I and many others make a difference in the lives of people. And, that’s a very good thing.

Hello Bob,
Teaching is not only the noblest of professions, but what separates us from the apes.
There is no progress if we can’t pass our knowledge and expertise to the next generation. As they say “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he’ll eat forever”
My Favorite Quote:
“In helping others, we shall help ourselves, for whatever good we give out completes the circle and comes back to us.”
Thanks For All You Do!
Teaching what you know is so true. For those who think they may not have enough knowledge to impart to others, the quote “to every third grader, a fourth grader is a god”, should be your ah-ha moment.
I am seeking help. I don’t know how to set up a Blog or where I would find the software needed to constuct it. Can you help me, please?
Great post bob! When I set out to teach myself Internet marketing, I had absolutely zero experience. I had so much to learn with mind boggling obstacles, but I stayed the path. Although I had days of frustration, confusion, and no sleep, I kept on going because I knew I had stumbled upon something that could change the course of my life. With all that being said, I’m now starting to see how I can monetize that knowledge by teaching others what I learned. Before coming to this realization though, my thinking was this; What can I teach people that is different from what other mentors, coaches, successful Internet marketers are teaching? What could I offer that would be any different or unique from other marketers with way more experience? Well, after I read this post it hit me. Every Internet marketer has to go through the same learning process that everybody else does. Even though there might be a ton of people teaching Internet marketing, it’s their own unique resources that they can offer someone. No one person has all of the same resources:-)
