Not Free Willie…

Not Willie Nelson…

I’m talking about Willie Crawford, one of the top internet marketing minds in the world.

He’ll be teaching you some of his top affiliate marketing techniques on today’s IM Success Radio show (see below). But first let me tell you a quick story about him so you know the kind of person he is.

Willie’s been online for well over a decade, and is one of the most generous people you will ever meet.

Willie’s one of the “gurus” – he holds his own seminars, is a highly sought after speaker, receives $800/hour for coaching, and earns at least $20,000 up front to help launch a product.

Earlier this year, I had the honor of sharing the stage with Willie at Ross Goldberg’s Masters’ Seminar in Chicago.

This was my first stage appearance, and I was pretty nervous! About two hours before I was to go on stage, I sat in the back of the conference room next to him, so I could work a bit more on my presentation slides.

But I couldn’t find a convenient outlet for my laptop.

Willie noticed an outlet under a table a few feet away from him.

Most people in his situation would have pointed that out to me, and let me go plug it in myself. But, not Willie.

Without hesitating, he grabbed my cord, and crawled under the table to plug in my laptop…

… while he was in his full suit for his own presentation!

That’s the kind of generosity that you get all the time from Willie.

Bob: I thought it would be instructive, Willie, if you don’t mind,
for our listeners, if you could point out some characteristics of what
makes an unsuccessful affiliate marketer because I’m sure in the decade
and a half that you’ve been online that you have seen quite a few
people come and go and I’d love to hear from you what kind of
characteristics make people unsuccessful so you can learn from their
counterexample.

Willie: Yeah. I think it’s largely not putting the needs of the
customer first, the concerns of the customer first. I know Jay Abraham
used to teach something called… something of primacy. But, it’s
treating your customers like you would your children, actually wanting
what’s best for them that bad.

And when you really, really want what’s best for them then you’ll go
out of your way to find the very best products for them. And if you’re
convinced that those products are really going to improve your
customer’s lives, you do work hard at selling your customers those
products, but you don’t sell them anything that you’re not absolutely
convinced will improve their lives. So, you’re extremely, extremely
out… You promote only products that you honestly believe in.

It’s not uncommon to have someone suggesting that you promote of their
products and you ask – I ask – for a review copy and I get a lot of
products that are substandard. There’s something about the product that
makes me uneasy.

And there are affiliates who, because the commissions are attractive or
maybe they made a promise that they felt some pressure to promote the
product, so they promote it anyway even though they don’t feel it’s the
best product for their customers. I’ve seen affiliates promote what I
would term “vaporware” [laughs] where there’s no real product behind
the promotion.

For example, I’ve seen membership sites that were free but you paid a
fee to upgrade and all the upgrade fee allowed you to do was to make a
commission off of other people who upgraded. So, there was no real
product behind the fee the customer was paying.

So again, I call that “vaporware” because it’s creating a product out
of nothingness. And I create products out of nothingness all the time
but what I do is like what you’re doing now with like a recorded
interview or something where it’s not out of nothingness, out of thin
air, but it has value. But, I’ve seen a lot of people selling
“vaporware”.

I’ve seen people promoting products where the web page just was really,
really poorly written and the web page lacked credibility. Maybe there
were outlandish claims on the web page. It lacked believability.

I mean, we’ve both seen those pages where you just look at them and,
first of all, you’ve never heard of the person behind the product so
you’re thinking, “Who is this person?” And then as you read some of the
claims, you can instantly spot things that make it obviously not
accurate. And so they’ve instantly lost you.

And I see a lot of affiliates promote products like that where they’ve
probably read the page and think, “No, this can’t be right” or “this
can’t be accurate” and yet they promote it anyway. And the customer can
see right through that too so they lose the customer because, you know,
greed gets them. And you can’t let that happen. So, that’s another
thing.

10 Reasons to Use Facebook For Business

Social networking websites, especially Facebook, have significant implications for business owners, marketers, and entrepreneurs. 3. Instant gate opener.Facebook members are open to connecting. You can easily begin a dialog with highly successful–even famous–people who were previously otherwise unreachable.
4. Build relationships.By engaging in conversations with your prospects and customers, you can better adapt your marketing and business services to meet their needs.
5. Raise visibility.By consistently showing up, posting relevant information, and being a thought leader, you can increase visibility and credibility as an expert in your area.
6. Develop your personal brand.The lines between business and personal have become blurred. You can reveal as much or as little about yourself as you wish, allowing you to personalize your brand.
7. Target your niche.Users volunteer vast amounts of information about themselves that you can readily access. These kinds of demographics, psychographics, and technographics would previously have cost fortunes to access. Author, John Battelle, calls Facebook a “database of intentions.”
8. Get rapid top Google placement.Create a Page for your business and “push” information to your “fans.” Pages (for business) and Profiles (for personal) are indexed for optimal search engine positioning. Facebook has a page rank of #5 according to Alexa.
9. Place targeted ads.With Facebook Social Ads, you can test out extremely targeted advertising for minimal cost.
10. Free marketing.Aside from paid ads, Facebook is totally free to use and with regular activity you’ll end up with more traffic, more subscribers, and more paying clients.

These are two themes that played out over and over again this weekend at JV Alert.

It reminds me how grateful I am to have you as part of my life. Taking the leap one year ago when I left the history classroom to teach online full time was pretty scary.

But with your help I’m happier than I’ve ever been and helping more people pursue their own ambitions.

Wednesday, Joanna and I fly to Poland to visit with her family (all still live there), and we wouldn’t be able to do this without you being part of this.

So I want to say thank you sincerely.

I also hope that you can have similar experiences (if you don’t already) to what I had this weekend in Philadelphia.

I enjoyed being a panel expert during the hot seats and Q&A sessions; loved reconnecting with old friends; and meeting new people that I’ve never known before.

But what really sticks in my memory from the weekend is meeting students of SquidooSecrets, DiscovercPanel.com or TeleseminarFormula.com (and others) who came up to me to thank me for what I’ve done for them and how I’ve helped them understand all this stuff.

Ken McArthur, the host of JV Alert talked about the Impact we all can have in our lives, and we need to pursue that impact with gusto.

The conversations I had with Bonnie, Denis, Tom, Keith, Carrie, Chris, Cyndi, Charlie, Odinn, Stacy, Kevin, Cheri, Steven, Rich, and so many others revealed just how much of an impact I’ve had on their lives.

More importantly, knowing that their success will impact so many others has me feeling very grateful.

When I initially set out to “make mcney” online, I was chasing after opportunities. And nobody knew who I was and if they did, they didn’t care.

Once I decided to impact my subscribers/clients/partners with my specific area of expertise (teaching complex things to make them simple), people took notice and the gratitude and impact began to grow.

I hope you are focusing on what you are good at and special ways you can serve your customers, too, instead of chasing after dollars and opportunities.

It doesn’t really matter what you know – somehow with creativity and perseverance, it can be used to help someone else get more time, save money, improve their lives, take a more fun vacation, take care of their loved ones, or help a child who doesn’t know how to read too well.

Dig deep into what makes you unique, and let people know what you’re good at – you’ll be surprised how much more fun you will have and how much more you will attract people you’ll love to be around.
