Have you noticed that a lot of marketers send you emails with links inside that look like http://clicks.aweber.com/dfakja/adfafk.asd.af? Are you doing the same thing?

In today’s lesson, I’ll show you why that’s happening, and how to make your links look like real links your readers won’t be afraid to click.

With Aweber and other autoresponder services, you’re able to track how many people open your email and how many of those people click your links. This is helpful to measure the effectiveness of your email campaigns. With the data, you can make smarter decisions.

The trouble with those links though, like any other “cloaked” link (such as a tinyURL), is your readers don’t really know what will be on the other side of the link. This causes hesitation among many of your readers.

One solution is to turn click tracking off. Which of course is a mistake if you want the data. Another solution savvier marketers do is to change their HTML message to show a regular call to action phrase with the text linked. For example, Download This Free Report would be a solution of this type.

But still, there is a way to make your link look like a regular website address, and not have it turn into a long click tracking link, while still using this feature.

This is important because many marketers realize that a great domain name can be just as or more effective at getting the clicks they want.

Here’s how to do it.

Using the HTML version of a message, type your link as it’s full link. For example, I’ll use the example of one of my sites, DiscoverAutoresponders.

The link should look like this: http://www.DiscoverAutoresponders.com. You’ll need to make sure to link the text using the HTML editor’s link button (looks like a chain). If you leave it like this, Aweber will change your link to it’s click tracking link. But by simply making a minor change, this won’t happen.

Just delete the front part of your domain in your email. So now, your link will look like http://DiscoverAutoresponders.com. Simply by doing this quick step, the text of your link will be different from the target address, and the click tracking link won’t replace your link in the email. However, the link tracking feature will still work as designed, giving you all the information you need for your market research.

You’ll want to test the link to make sure that the link with and without www works as expected – some older web hosts don’t treat them the same.

Now your links will be attractive to your readers, and full of data for you – a win, win to remember.

Bob Jenkins

p.s. Remember – getting your readers to click the links in your emails will result in higher customer retention rates, more revenue, and better information for your marketing. Let me know if you get better results from this tip!

Today’s lesson is all about writing effective emails in an autoresponder series.

Think about these three things:

Only 1 person is reading your message at a time

Your readers want you to be consistent

Your readers want you to help them

Your readers want to buy useful things

Only 1 Person Is Reading Your Message At A Time

Even though you are technically writing messages that will be seen by (hopefully) thousands of people over time, each email is actually read by just one person at a time. This means you need to write your messages just to one person.

Instead of writing to “you all” or “some of you”, write directly to “you” or “one of my best customers”.

Also, you can use personalization fields in autoresponders like Aweber, where everybody gets their email with their actual first name in the message.

Your Readers Want You To Be Consistent

In general, people like a routine because its comfortable and doesn’t confuse them.

With autoresponder marketing, consistency means emailing your subscribers with regular frequency, and having a typical format to your messages.

I like to send out messages every 2-4 days, but only when I have something of value to give. Some people like emailing every day, and others once a week or two. Regardless of what you determine your frequency to be – stick to it.

When it comes to formatting your messages, I like to always include a link in my emails. This makes it routine for my readers to know that after reading the email, they’ll want to click on the included link for more.

Even when I’m not promoting a product, I do this. I’ll include part of a lesson in the email, and then have a link to my blog to finish the reading. You never want to have your email message be a dead end. Because then, the only link to click on in the message is the one to unsubscribe!

Your Readers Want You To Help Them

Many people think that using autoresponders as an essential part of their business means sending out promotional emails every time. This is partially true – you are promoting yourself and your expertise each time you send a message. But you don’t have to be selling anything. What you are really doing is building a relationship of trust between your readers and yourself.

Your readers want to know that you aren’t just trying to suck cash out of their wallet. So don’t be stingy with your free advice, tips, etc. Ultimately, you need to prove to each reader individually that you are the person they should turn to for answers.

Your Readers Want To Buy Useful Things

People love to buy things, but they hate being sold to. I’m sure you’ve probably heard this before, right?

Well, it’s true. Most people get great joy when they make an excellent purchase. The trick is you have to make sure your customer feels that they get a great value from you when they give you money. They want to feel like they got the better end of the deal.

So don’t be afraid to offer a product or service to your readers – whether it’s an affiliate product or one of your own.

If you genuinely feel that your readers will benefit from using a product or service, then your recommendation will have a big impact on them. If you are just after some cash, your readers will quickly figure that out and abandon you.

And if you DON’T offer your readers something to buy, then you aren’t building a business. You’re just making friends.

Put these tips into action, and you’ll be well on your way to long term online profits!

p.s. Make sure you’ve registered for the Discover Autoresponders training I’m holding this weekend. You’ll learn everything you need to know about how to technically set up your email communication system, create squeeze pages, build a list and create an excellent email series that will get results!
