The next step in the report creation process is to publish my Word Document (or Open Office) as a PDF.
It used to be that you had to buy Adobe professional for this to work. Then there were free PDF printers you could add on. But now, both Microsoft Word and Open Office support PDF printing internally.
All I need to do in Word is go to File, Save As and choose the PDF option. In Open Office, it’s File, Export as PDF. I want to choose a name that’s going to be search engine friendly – Google loves PDFs.
The name also helps your readers find it on their computer later. So don’t just pick a name like report1.pdf.
Also, you don’t want to put the version number or anything that you would change later into the name. This is because once it’s online, you want all your links pointing to the most recent version. If you name it something like teleseminar-today-1.pdf, and then publish teleseminar-today-2.pdf as the second version, then all the links pointing to the first one will still go to the old file.
It’s possible you’ll be sending the link to this file in an email as well, so make it obvious what it is.
Once you’ve published the report, you simply need to upload it to your website so people can download it. Of course, you can add it as an attachment in your autoresponder system as well.
If you don’t have a website yet, obviously you should set up a hosting account and a domain name. Use your website’s cPanel file manager to upload the file. Or, if you are using a blog or a Quansite, you can use the file manager within your admin dashboard.
Videos to walk you through this process by the way are part of the IM Success Library gold and platinum memberships.
Once your report is online, grab the URL, and start spreading the word! You can either link directly to the report, or use it as an opt-in gift for your email list like I talk about on Day 11 of the Autoresponder Challenge.
Finally, you can get graphics made for your report if you wish, but that’s not necessary at first.
Here’s my new report, which is now ready for your reading enjoyment :)
