Happy Mother’s Day to you and to all the Mothers in your life (sisters, daughters, friends).

To celebrate the day, I have a time management tip for you as you try to juggle all the things in your
life.

I’m often asked how do I get as much done as I do when there are so many distractions that come up.

Well, to be honest, I still get distracted and off track. But I’ve learned to recognize it early and not let it cripple my momentum.

Here’s how I do it…

First, I use the Freemind mind mapping software every day for everything – business, personal life, chores, “honey-do lists”, etc. It’s always open on my computer desktop and if I feel like I’ve been distracted, it’s there to remind me of what my targets are for the day and week.

As I get things done, I move each task from the “priority list” to a “finished list” inside the map.

Second, when I feel like I’ve lost my groove during the day, I step away from the computer and give myself a break. Do a quick exercise or two – see http://twittercise.ning.com for some great 30 second exercises you can do – or some other physical activity around the house.

Third, I use the timer on my phone to give myself a dedicated time to focus on just one thing I need to get done, then give a reward.

The time allotted should not be more than an hour to keep this effective.

For example, I am currently working on the ebook for the TeleseminarFormula.com project. So last night, I set the timer for an hour:

I told myself you have one good hour in you to work on this, do as much as you can, and after the hour is up, you can go watch the Orioles game (reward).

An hour is a lot easier to swallow than telling yourself you must finish an ebook or project. This way, you feel like you accomplished your goal.

I’m sure you have a lot of projects you are juggling as well. And setting deadlines is important. However, as you set the deadlines give yourself time-specific tasks so you are
more likely to make progress than dread working but “not finishing” – this will relieve quite a bit of stress from your working time.

And if you’re like me, once you get started that hour comes and goes and you’re still in work mode. So you keep working on it anyway.

As you celebrate Mother’s Day in your own way, use these tips to move forward with all your projects – both personal and professional.

Have a great day!

Bob Jenkins
