Road Trip To Vegas Day One

I’m off on a road trip to Vegas to teach at Mike Filsaime’s Butterfly Marketing conference. Should be a great event.
But I need to get there first.
I live in Leland, North Carolina, across the bridge from Wilmington, NC. So it’s quite a ways to drive. But nevertheless, my partner Joanna convinced me how cool it would be (plus she hates flying).
So earlier today we set out for our first stop – Birmingham, Alabama.
Along the way, I’ve been shooting video of what we’re seeing, which will be loaded up soon (I’m writing this from a hotel whose connection is not quite fast enough to upload vid clips).
Unfortunately, after the first hour or so, we hit rain. And then more rain, and then even more rain. Pretty much torrential madness. Evidently there was a wannabe tropical depression that came up from Florida that stalled out over the Southeast.
A couple of things discovered:
- the auxiliary jack of the Rav4 I’m renting, or the equipment I bought at Wal-mart to hook up my iphone & ipods to the stereo system are causing a loud whine that gets higher pitched the faster you accelerate. Very odd.
- Adam Urbanski continues to impress me. I listened to more of his Attract Clients Like Crazy recordings through my earphones, and had some neat “ah-has” about my internet marketing.
- Sometimes it’s good to break out the old CDs you haven’t listened to in a while, and be amazed at how much you remember the lyrics to songs from long ago. Makes me wish I was more musically talented so I could deliver my internet marketing lessons through song to make them more memorable.
- I’m excited to be using my new Flip Ultra HD. It’s creating larger file sizes, which is what I was afraid of. But it holds 2 hours of recording time, and it’s a nice picture for sure. We have a back up Flip 30min that we’re also going to be using on the trip.
But the biggest fun of the first day was meeting up with one of my long time clients/students that I met in Sterling Valentine’s Power Month: Frank Kilgore. Frank’s been through just about all my virtual workshops, and he always cracks me up when he’s on the calls. We met up tonight at PF Chang’s for the first time.
He’s even better in person, and we had a great time catching up. We recorded a video that I’ll also be posting up soon.
Anyway, we have a long trip ahead tomorrow. It’s the longest day going there – to Oklahoma City. This is a part of the country I’ve never been through, so Joanna was right (don’t tell her that though!).

p.s. If you want to learn how to shoot video in the simplest, yet really effective way, check out Web Video Magnetism from Perry and Carrie. They taught me a few things, and I know they can help you make video simple and fun, and profitable.

I will be following your trip since this was the same route we did last October from Ontario Canada – joining Route 66 in St Louis. We went to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Page & Lake Powell, and then onto Vegas. There is a wonderful restaurant in Sedona that does awesome and world renowned Peach Cobbler that has got to be the best dessert I have tasted.
I am loving my membership of the Success Library. You are indeed a great teacher and made Aweber so simple. I’ve been looking for a straightforward intro for ages and this is it. Looking forward to doing the rest too.
BTW – the rest stops in Missouri are excellent but they deteriorate in quality as you get into Oklahoma and Texas.
Sorry to hear about the torrential downpour; it’s never fun to drive in that. But it sounds like you’re enjoying the journey — and really, isn’t that what life is all about?
Safe travels, my friend, and thanks for the updates from the road. I’ll be following your progress here & on Twitter http://Twitter.com/BobTheTeacher
Talk soon,
Felicia
Hi Bob,
That sure is a long way to drive – that is 2383 miles – are you Mad!!!! LOL
We don’t even have 2383 miles here in the UK.
Drive safely and make sure you still have something left in the tank when you teach at Mike’s event – I hope Joanna is doing all of the driving so you can stay fresh for the big event:-)
Michael
PS that is going to one helluva game of “I-Spy”
I’ve visions of Robin Wiliams in the movie RV….
Bob let some one else attach the sludge hose!!
Seriously though have a great trip and be safe… We need you on the Cruise in January

Bob,
I look forward to seeing you in Vegas. My business partner and I are leaving Saturday late afternoon for Mike’s BFM conf. We are somewhat new to the script but working diligently to build some quality sites.
We hope you don’t mind but we are using yours as guidance! :-D
See you there.
Greg
Thanks for the updates Bob. Looking forward to the videos. Road trips can be a lot of fun and you get to see and experience a lot of things that flying does not provide. It’s also a great time to bond with the family.
Have a safe trip. If you decide to come to the Bay Area I would love to have you and your family over for lunch or dinner.
