[Video Velocity Strategies] Recording Your Audio In A PowerPoint Screencast

One of the questions I receive from video marketing students of Simple Video Velocity and other courses is:
“How can I make sure my audio and screen presentation sync up perfectly in a Camtasia video?”
This brings up a friendly debate I’ve had for a few years with my good friend Lon Naylor.
When I create PowerPoint screencasts, I’ll make the slides and use them as an outline for what I’m going to say. When I press record for audio, I’m simultaneously recording the screen and speaking “on-the-fly.”
However, Lon almost always creates a script, records just the audio first, and then syncs it up to the presentation.
He’s created a video out of one of his premium Q&A sessions that dives deeper into this issue. And I’d say he gets another point in his favor on the discussion – especially if you aren’t comfortable going on the fly like me!

By the way, this video is a great example of the types of in-depth handholding you get from Lon and his business partner Michelle Schoen in their Learn Camtasia program. I highly recommend Learn Camtasia as the #1 place to learn screencast video creation strategies with Camtasia; and Lon Naylor as the best to teach you presentation and marketing strategies with this very versatile tool. Check out the Learn Camtasia program, and enjoy making head-turning videos to promote your products and services!

I am kinda in both camps. I don’t record a script ahead of time. However when I record my power point I shut down the audio in Camtasia and use Audacity for the audio. That give me a separate audio file that I sync up with the video during the editing.
Great Article, excellent writing and reasoning
