[Star Trek Business Lessons] #5: Live Long and Prosper
by NicoleDean · Filed Under: Business Building · Mindset · Productivity

Hi again, Nicole Dean here with Day 5 of this series “5 Lessons I’ve Learned from Star Trek that Have Helped me with my Online Business”.
If you’ve missed any of the first four lessons, you can find them below:
Outsourcing Lessons from Dr. McCoy.
Productivity Lessons from Kirk.
Viral Marketing Lessons from Tribbles.
Time Management Lessons from Scotty.
Today, I’m here with the wrap up (and final embarrassing pictures of Bob and me).
You must have known that this last lesson was coming.
Lesson #5: Live Long and Prosper.
Now, I’m sitting in an airport writing this so I don’t have a whole lot of research in front of me to prove anything that I say. (Oh, yeah, baby, I’m a loose cannon!) BUT, I have found in my own business and in my own life that the more that I “LIVE” my life the way that I want to, the more I “PROSPER”. Therefore we’ll discuss how to live your life so that you can also prosper in your online business.
My mentor, Jimmy D. Brown likes to use anagrams to better describe things, so let’s give this a shot.

I’ll use “LIVE LONG & PROSPER” to outline some of the lessons that I’ve learned.
L – Laughter.
Everyone teases me that I laugh all the time during my Online Business Success Podcast. They’re like “Lighten up, girl!” Obviously – I have fun with my work. And, Bob is a light-hearted, fun guy (or he’d have changed my passwords by now to stop this blog series). Are you having fun, too? If not, lighten up!
I – Inspiration.
Find something that inspires you. Whether your inspiration is reading success stories of other marketers or going on a walk on the beach. Whatever it is, feed your heart.
V – Veggies.
I eat them. You should, too. :) My ‘mom hat’ doesn’t come off when the internet marketing hat is on. Fiber. Vitamins. Antioxidants. Keep a wide variety of colorful veggies on your plate at least once a day, but hopefully more than that. You need your energy to think and stay focused and productive.
E – Exercise.
I’m sure our bud, Scott Tousignant, will pipe in with a big thumbs up. If he doesn’t, I’ll hunt him down and make him just for social proof. I know, personally, when I sit on my bottom too much, my creativity and productivity suffer big time. For instance, I was working on a highly tedious job that was making me nuts. It was going to take me hours and hours of my time and I was dreading it. So, I did the normal thing to do. I said “to heck with it” and went on a 10 mile bike ride with my mom.
On my bike rides, the same thing happens all the time. I have “ah-ha” moments. Well, this bike ride, I realized that I had a shortcut at my fingers that I used all the way back when I was writing bank training manuals. So, I got home and I got that job done in no time flat. PLUS, the next time that I have to do the same task – I’m all set up and ready to roll, so I’ll save myself time repeatedly for years to come. Yay, me! I owe it to my bike ride, though. In my Outsource Course, I share with my students that I can tell if I’m outsourcing and systemizing properly by how my jeans fit. (I know. Too much information, but I’m sure you can relate!)
L – Liquids.
Drink your water, and lots of it. If you really dislike the taste of water, add some lemon or even a splash of juice. Dehydration can cause fatigue and also make you feel mentally exhausted (and get depressed and crabby), too. ‘Nuff said.
O – Oxygen.
Take deep breaths during the day. I find that, when I’m tired, I can revitalize quickly with a few deep breaths. Amazingly, my mind gets more focused and – I get more done, which means, that I prosper.
N – Network.
Having a group of people who actually “get” what you do and value what you do (as far as being an entrepreneur) is essential!
G – Goals.
How does an archer hit the target? By aiming. You can’t hit your goals unless you aim.
I actually have “PROSPER” outlined, too, but I’ve run out of time today so you’ll have to watch my blog to see that update in the pdf that I’ll come out with.
Well, guys. I’m outta here. Thanks so much for reading.
Warmly,
Nicole Dean

Thanks Nicole for a great set of posts, and lots of good ideas in my brain! … and also for the entertaining graphics… love seeing you guys all trekked out.
Awesome tips Nicole. I agree!!
LOL – loved the photos and the week of Trekkie references.
Thanks for being such a great sub, Nicole! If you ever do put together a report with all the Star Trek episodes, let us know!
Awesome post Nicole! You’ve fit so many great tidbits of amazing advice in one post here. And yes I’ve noticed that you sure have a lot of fun and are always laughing during your success casts. They do say that laughter is the best medicine.
I’m always looking for inspiration and I never have to look far. Something as simple as listening to my kids can inspire me. Or reading a magazine cover, watching a movie, listening to a great audio, or reading a post like this.
If you want loads of energy, fuel your brain and body with what it truly wants… no not caffeine ;) Veggies. You’ll be amazed at how it impacts your day.
Successful entrepreneurs have known for decades that incorporating exercise into your workday will help you get more done in less time. It improves time management, mental performance, and quality of work.
Just the other day it was raining out and I was feeling a bit lazy and unproductive… which is ok once in a while. The moment the rain stopped I hopped on my bike because I knew that I needed a boost. During my ride I came up with 5 great blog post topics and a fun way to generate buzz about my blog. A 30 minute bike ride always clears my head, helps me get in-tune with myself, and generates great ideas.
I always have a sense of excitement about tackling the days tasks after I complete a quickie home office workout. Exercise releases all kinds of endorphins to help boost your mood and spirit. It also helps get rid of any feelings of overwhelm that I may be experiencing.
You are absolutely correct Nicole. The leading cause of fatigue is dehydration. That’s why I have a jug of water at my desk. It’s fuel for your brain. Your brain requires water send the signals to the rest of your body. If it’s dehydrated it’s not going to be working efficiently.
Goals with a purpose is definitely a key to success, and I can definitely say that I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for networking with amazing people like you Nicole, my buddy Bob, and our friend Lynn Terry. You all ROCK!
Thanks for this awesome series. It’s been a colorful way to teach some very powerful lessons.
