[Star Trek Business Lessons] #2: Beam Me Up, Scotty!

Hi again! I’m Nicole Dean, and I’m a friend of Bob’s. (Well, for now, until he sees some more of these pictures… although in all honesty, I think I’m getting it worse than he is! Look at my “man” body, below. And, he looks all cute. I’d better have my graphic designer put my head on some women… quick, before I get a body image problem!) ;)
So, while he floats across the Atlantic with his lady, I’ll be here keeping you entertained, having fun playing on his blog and hopefully teaching something in the process.
If you missed my first post yesterday and have no idea who I am or why I’m here, you can read it here: Nicole Dean Subs for Bob the Teacher
As you can see, I’m doing a Star Trek focus this week. The topic is
5 Lessons I’ve Learned from Star Trek that Have Helped me with my Online Business
So, what could the second lesson be?
Lesson #2: “Beam Me Up. Scotty!”
As you know, in Star Trek, the crew usually “rode” the transporter whenever they traveled to the surface of a planet. Did they have smaller ships to use? Yes, they had shuttles. However, Kirk always said “Beam me up, Scotty!” rather than saying “Send the shuttle to pick me up, Scotty.”
Why? Because it was faster and easier and took less energy and less man-power.
So, in your business, are you doing things the fast, efficient way or are you doing them the sloooow, hard, labor-intensive way?
I’ve already said my opinion yesterday about Outsourcing, and yes, I agree with the comments that one of the easiest and least painful jobs to outsource is your graphics. Unless, of course, you’re getting your head photoshopped on a body of the opposite gender. Then, it’s pretty painful. ((sigh)) ;)
But, there are other ways you can speed up your progress and get more done every day.
Find a mastermind group.
Do not do all of your learning and networking on a free forum or messageboard. If there’s a way to upgrade to a private section or a mastermind group, do it. Otherwise, how can you possibly know who to believe or trust? The same person whose signature file says “Earn $10,000 per month. Ask me how.” this week will be post a question saying “Why can’t I earn any money? I haven’t even made my first sale!” the next week. OUCH. That especially hurts if you took advice from that person.
Bob offers an inner circle where you can pick his brain. You can find it here: Bob’s Inner Circle.
Use the right tool for the job.
You shouldn’t ever have your hairdresser using a jackhammer to cut your hair. And, you shouldn’t see a construction crew using cotton balls to dig a tunnel.
You use the right tool for the job. The hard part is knowing which tool is the right one. Again, that’s where a mastermind or mentoring group can come in handy. (I’ll also be coming out with some guides in the very near future to help you with this. And, Bob’s guides on Free Mind and all of the rest in his IM Success Library are priceless, of course.)
My favorite shortcut is PLR. When you’re in a rush and need some help to write your blog posts or create a Viral Report that takes your message across the web and back, check out: PLR
Schedule and plan your day.
Being efficient as a Home Entrepreneur is not an easy task. It’s not like it’s something you took a class about in high school, or even college. At least I didn’t. That’s why I really loved this report “Homepreneur Habits: How To Run A Successful Home Business“ by my mentor, Jimmy D. Brown.
Not only do you get to look at the home office of one of the greatest Internet Marketers of all time, but Jimmy also gives you a peek into his daily schedule to see how he runs his business in only 3 hours each day.
So, next time that you feel like a task is much harder than it needs to be, go to your mastermind group and ask if there is a better tool for the job. If not, perhaps it is a task that should be outsourced to someone who is more effective at doing the job in less time. Or… maybe it’s something that doesn’t need to be done at all.
Just some more food for thought. I hope you’re enjoying my visit here. I sure am!
Oh, and in case you missed the comics yesterday, click on the image below. (There are fifteen comics total, but you’ve got to click on the comic below and page through to see all of them.)
Thanks so much for reading!
Warmly,
Nicole Dean

Hey Nicole – well just love the Star Trek theme this week. :)
I agree, joining a Mastermind group was the best thing I have done for my business. If Bob has spots available in his Inner Circle, then folks would be wise to join!

I’m loving this series Nicole! The Star Trek pics are just cracking me right up.
I agree, joining a mastermind group was the best thing I ever did for me. Not just for my business, but for me! It’s helped me in every aspect of my life, because when your business plan is moving along smoothly and you’re getting work done efficiently, then you have more time for other things. fun things! family things! food things! movie things! It’s a huge stress relief and well worth every penny.

I love the transporter! I’ve always said that when they need beta testers for the real thing, I’m there! :) I HATE to drive anywhere long distance, and would love to punch in some coordinates and zap zap, I’m there! Any other takers for the beta test?
