Yesterday, I wrote about how too many online gifts can be overwhelming to you over time. That lesson resulted in some great comments with different opinions.

Today, I want to share the other side of the issue: how you can be a gift giver and provide the value that people will appreciate.

When you create an information product that you give away, you’re able to show off what you know or what you’ve learned through experience. By doing so, you can help somebody else avoid mistakes, save money, discover a useful product or service, or become better educated on a particular topic.

You also get your name out there as a “producer” instead of a “consumer”. And that shift in recognition carries a lot of positive changes for your business over time.

One of my mentors, Alex Mandossian, calls this “self-serving benevolence”.

It’s not too late for you to create a product that you can give away as a gift. In fact, there are a few things you can do to help others while simultaneously setting up your business for better growth in the coming year.

The two that I would encourage you to do are write your own special report or host a teleseminar. Both are not difficult if you keep the process simple. And you can always improve what you make – remember, Take Action Revise Later!

If you’ve already written articles, blog posts, or transcribed a teleseminar, you can create a report from that content in a few hours.

Writing a report from scratch is a great weekend project you can take on. Just pick a topic you know well, such as a product you’ve successfully used recently, or set of tricks you’ve learned to save money this time of year.

You can also host a teleseminar for your online friends and followers. Like the report, you should pick a topic you know well and answer people’s questions about it. Or you can get one of the people you are following online to let you interview them about what they do. Ask them a few questions, and let them do most of the talking.

You can give a ticket to the live call, and record the teleseminar to give the replay as a gift.

Regardless of which gift you wish to give, pick one that will help your readers/listeners while giving them access to you and your knowledge/connections.

Think about this: who do you look up to and learn from online? Who are your mentors offline?  What sets them apart from the rest of the people you come in contact with?

Chances are pretty good that you look up to them because they’ve created something or provide a service that you respect and appreciate.

Now’s the time for you to get into that league as well. Become a giver instead of a taker/consumer. You’ll be amazed at what that transformation does for the future of your business.
