Also, Tom, the Aweber analytics tool does work great… but only if you own the domain the link is coming from. If you are using another domain/affiliate link that you don’t control, the link remains the clicks.aweber.com link.

Thanks for the reply Tom – and you raise a great point I hadn’t thought of. But I’m wondering if the link that since the destination to a link with or without the www. is actually the same website, if it will still be seen as a spam link?

The alternative to this could also be leaving off the http:// for the display URL, while the destination URL includes the http://

Bob,

Greatly appreciate the time you took to write up this tip, but having a display URL that’s different than the actual click thru URL is the absolute worst thing you can do for email deliverability. The link ends up looking like a phishing URL and will trip most email client scam/fraud/spam filters.

If you don’t like the clicks.aweber.com click tracking links, we strongly recommend using our new analytics click tracking functions which allow you to use your own domain name and still track clicks. It’s all detailed on our blog at:

Thanks for the short but great lesson.

I have been using recommend links but I wasn’t aware that they got change without applying your simple trick.

Pretty ingenious and so simple.
