Just a clarification regarding &quot;closed&quot; affiliate programs, where you have to buy the product before you&#039;re eligible to become an affiliate:

They&#039;re ILLEGAL in almost all countries, including the USA and Canada.

The bottom line here is that requiring a personal purchase in order to be eligible for referral benefits (of any kind, not just commissions) is outlawed under most trade practices legislation.
