After creating the new squeeze page yesterday, we’re all set to begin some small scale prmotion steps. It’s been a busy week, so I’ll be doing just a couple of things today.
Tasks for Day 6:
- Promote on Facebook
- Promote on Twitter
- Write Message 3
Let’s get started…
Linking Permanently From Facebook
Facebook is a great place to advertise your squeeze page because the people that see your profile are likely to be in your ideal audience, or know someone who is. It’s also likely that they came to be your “friend” on Facebook from a recommendation. So they are far from being a distant stranger.
I’m going to advertise a link to my squeeze page in 3 places today, 2 of which will be long term links (at least until I decide to change them later).
The first place I’ll post my link is in the little welcome box that Facebook gives you just under your photo on your profile page. This box has a little pencil in the top right corner for you to edit.
I had been encouraging people to head over to my fan page, but for now I’m going to change it to my new squeeze page. I simply need to use the full URL in order for it to show up as a link.
The second place I’ll add my link is to the contact information area of my profile. To get there, I can click the edit my profile link under my main photo, and going into contact information. Or I can click the little pencil in the top right of my profile info box.
Either way, I’m going to make sure that under websites I have AskBobTheTeacher.com at the top. I do have several other links; they’re showcasing my internet marketing training courses individually. I may eventually remove those from the list, but for now I’m leaving them there. Normally such a list would be distracting from the focus. But since people coming to my Facebook page already know me at some level, I’m not as concerned about the distraction.
You can see my new profile at Facebook.com/BobJenkins
The final thing I’ll do on Facebook today is simply post the link to the site on my wall, and announce that I’ve made some changes to my homepage. That will be seen by many of my 2000+ friends on Facebook, and perhaps will be commented on by others. With social networking, you just never know what can happen with a single post!
Later, we’ll add an opt-in box right on the Facebook profile, my fan page , and promote my list in other areas. But for now, these 3 steps are finished.
Linking From Twitter
Without a doubt, Twitter is my favorite free traffic source. And obviously I need to make sure my URL on my Twitter profile page is pointing to my new squeeze page.
So after logging in to Twitter, I go to settings, and change the URL to my squeeze page, and click save.
As an update, I post a tweet that says I’ve changed my homepage and I’d like to get feedback. I find that asking for feedback and posting questions is a great way to share links without being seen as spamming my squeeze page.
Later, I’ll be updating my TweetLater account to post a link to my squeeze page relatively randomly. But for now, I won’t get into that. I also discourage sending a link in any auto-reply when people follow me. You need to develop more connection on Twitter before sending a link in a DM.
Write Message 3
When I planned out my first 10 messages, I determined that I wanted a second credibility message to go out third. This message should also encourage interaction with my readers.
I recorded a video at the school where I taught, and that’s what I want people to see at this point.
In the video, I’m reminding people of my past experiences as a high school teacher (credibility), and I’m giving a tip I learned by revisiting the school: use your past to tell a story to your customers.
When you include your past in your marketing and in your delivery of services, people get to know you better (that know-like-trust thing).
So I simply write up a follow up message that captures that idea, and gets my readers to go watch the video on my blog.
Again I’m doing my best to get my readers in the habit of clicking links inside my messages, reading my blog, and seeing videos where I am talking directly to them through the lens of the camera. Nothing fancy about the movie, really – just me holding a Flip Ultra HD video camera and talking for about 2 minutes.
Quick sidebar: I learned a lot about making these short, informal but impactful videos from this cool video training from Perry Lawrence and Carrie Wilkerson.
On the blog post itself, I encourage my viewers/readers to tell me their story with a comment. This will give them the chance to show off who they are, and we can get to know each other. It’s also a step of commitment that they’ll take, continuing the relationship building that is in process between us.
I set Message 3 to go out 6 days after my last message. This gives me 9 total days of communication for every new subscriber. I don’t want to send messages to soon, and seem like a stalker; but I also don’t want them to wait too long and forget why they want to open my emails every time.
Coming Up On Day 7
That’s it for today. Tomorrow, we’ll do another quick day by creating a quick webform that will work on the blog sidebar. And I’ll go through the first week and see if I missed anything I had set out to accomplish.
See you then!
