Join Me At Wilmington Twestival 2010 – March 25

Are you within driving distance to Wilmington, North Carolina? The global Twestival event has it’s Wilmington edition March 25, from 5:30- 10:00 p.m. downtown.

And I’ve just become a Platinum Sponsor of the event to support Concern Worldwide – a charity focused on improving education opportunities in areas that desperately need support.

Last year’s Twestival was a lot of fun – a great opportunity to get Twitter friends together IRL (in real life), and go beyond the avatars. This year should be even better, and with a venue like the River Room overlooking the Cape Fear you can’t go wrong.

Tickets are just $20, and all proceeds go to the charity. If you have a business in the Wilmington area, you may consider one of the different sponsorship levels as well.

Check out the details at the Wilmington Twestival homepage.

Hope to see you there!

Bob Jenkins

p.s. Twestival comes from Twitter + Festival. Last year’s event helped over 17,000 people get clean drinking water. This year, it’s all about

How To Create A Retweet This Link

One of my favorite ways to get traffic through Twitter is by using a Retweet This button or text link, so that the traffic to a page can go viral.

In fact, you likely came to this page because of this strategy in action.

Here’s how you do it….

Initial Opinions On TweetGlide From Mike Filsaime

If you’re tied into the internet marketing universe, you’re likely seeing TweetGlide exploding onto the scene. TweetGlide is a free software program from Mike Filsaime that combines the functionality of a useful Twitter App with a viral advertising/referral system to help you promote your business.

I’d like to share my initial opinions about it, to give you a better idea if TweetGlide is for you.

In brief:

Pros

  • Free
  • Works/looks like TweetDeck
  • Ads are only seen by other TweetGlide members
  • TweetGlide members who see ads are likely on Twitter for business
  • Referral program for increased ad views
  • Affiliate program
  • Easy to remember affiliate link
  • URL shortener
  • Premium upgrade option special offer is cheap
  • Premium ads include longer messages and color

Cons

  • Ads
  • Works like TweetDeck
  • Can not control what is said with the “Tweet my affiliate link” option
  • Money and Twitter have been hard to marry openly
  • Unproven how long people will use it

I’ll explain more about the pros and cons soon after I’ve tested it out more, but since it’s free and the ads you run are only in TweetDeck it’s worth trying out without fear.

Test out Tweet Glide for yourself and let me know what you think with a comment below!

Your List Is Not An ATM

Every day, I get an email from somebody that promises to help me turn my email list into an ATM – something I can press a button and just get instant cash any time I want.

Usually, these wind up in the spam folder, where they belong.

Regardless, it’s important for you not to take this line of thinking with your online marketing.

If you’re like me (a former high school teacher with no professional training in sales or selling), you may feel funny asking people for money whether in person, on a website, or via email.

So when you’re taught by gurus that your list is an ATM, you get this knot in your stomach, but you figure that’s the way it is.

Well, it’s not.

Ten Most Influential Women In My Business

Top 10 lists are always difficult because of who (or what) you leave off, but I’m going to take a chance anyway and share with you the 10 most influential women in my business right now or in the past.

Of course, there’s no way that I can really rank them in order, so I will cheat and list them alphabetically instead (by first name) :)  Regardless, I send each of you listed here a hearty thank you and appreciation for the role you’ve played in my success so far and in the future.

Hashtags and #FollowFriday On Twitter

So I asked what I should write about for my blog today, and @MKJensen85 suggested:

Well since it’s Friday you can write about how #FollowFriday helps people on Twitter to build bigger networks..

That’s a great idea.

First, let me explain what #FollowFriday is on Twitter.

Share Your Twitter Success Story

This week, I had a cool experience on Twitter.

Within a 4 hour period, using Twitter, I…

  • recouped $300 selling a ticket to an event I couldn’t use while helping someone else have an incredible experience.
  • presented an idea to someone, which resulted in a 1 hour phone conversation and a soon-to-be announced training project about advanced Twitter techniques
  • scheduled a call for later on Friday to be a case study inside a major product launch coming out in a couple of weeks.

Now, these are not the first success stories of my own use of Twitter. But having all 3 happen in such a short period of time was quite remarkable.

And it got me to thinking…

Why are so many people still confused about why Twitter is such a big deal?

So help me explain it to them.

Share your success story below. I’m looking for connections made, projects developed, specific items sold, revenue generated, deals made, lives saved, charities donated to… whatever.

Controversy Rages: 1 Click Tweets And Viral Getters

The Twitterverse is in an uproar over the semi-automated methods of attracting new followers to Twitter. Is it all spam? Or a legitimate method of gaining exposure to a wider audience? Or is there a middle ground that can keep the Twitter-purists happy while giving new Twitter users a quicker start on growing their circles of influence?

The argument centers around a few different methods of making it easier to post messages and get followers. Specifically, I’d like to get your opinion on these three methods…

  • 1 Click Tweets
  • Viral Tweets
  • Tweeter Getter

I’ll share my opinion and look forward to your comments below…

Is Twitter More Important Than List Building?

For the last few years, the #1 skill for building your business online has been list building.

In fact, most internet marketing teachers say without a list, you have no business. This is because it’s very difficult to sustain most online revenue models without having subscribers and customers to communicate with.

Now let’s leave that argument aside and instead debate whether Twitter is more important than list building.

The truth of the matter is, Twitter IS listbuilding. Just in a different sense of the concept. Instead of building a list of subscribers who receive email messages from you whenever you like, Twitter builds a
list of followers who are able to engage in conversation with you and your network.

This may be even more powerful than the traditional list, especially with the tendency for emails to end up getting lost in a sea of Viagra ads and bank transfer requests from the wife of the ambassador of a foreign land.

But more important than getting attention, Twitter and other social networking tools is a relationship builder, not just a list builder.

Whereas the traditional list building mentality is your subscriber list gives you access to wallets…

The new media list building mentality is your follower network gives you access to ideas, connections, market research, partnerships, and profits. This multi-directional approach is more sustainable, and honestly, a lot more fun.

What do you think? Comment below…

Bob Jenkins

p.s. Later today, I’ll be asking this question of one of the leaders of social networking and new media marketing, Deb Micek.

Deb is the author of Twitter Revolution, and Secrets of Online Persuasion. She’s my guest expert to teach you about Twitter during the Discover Social Networking virtual workshop. There’s still time for you to join

Learn Facebook And Twitter Faster

You may have a feeling that social networking is a waste of time when it comes to business. Or perhaps that Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc., are all “kids stuff” for showing off the inane happenings of their lives.

The truth is, you’re right – if you don’t know how to properly use online social networking sites for business.

Used strategically, both Facebook and Twitter can be very effective tools for communicating your marketing messages to a larger audience. They are also excellent for connecting you with potential customers, and like-minded business people to share ideas with. You may find some viable partnerships form out of these sites.

The key aspect that makes social networking so attractive to business owners “in the know” is
