[SIMPLE Strategies] Affiliate Strategy #2 – Offer A Mutually Beneficial Bonus

The other day, I shared with you my #1 affiliate marketing strategy, which is to create a product teaching other people how to use the strategy or tool I’m promoting.

Today, I’d like to share my next favorite way to generate revenue and build my business with affiliate marketing. This lesson comes from Module 3 of my SIMPLE 2 Business Acceleration Bootcamp in Baltimore September 24-26, 2010, which of course I’m encouraging you to attend.

Offer Mutually Beneficial Bonuses

I’m not talking about participating in the big bonus wars that seem to distract customers from the huge product launches. I’m really talking about thinking of a complementary bonus that does 3 things:

[SIMPLE Strategies] Big Secret #1 About Affiliate Marketing Success

A lot of people hear they can “get rich” with affiliate marketing, but too many come up way shorter than they want to.

Or, worse, they spend so much money on advertising and driving traffic that they dig a much bigger hole than the one they started in.

As I’ve developed my own business, I’ve generated quite a bit of my revenue from affiliate marketing. In fact, it typically makes up about 1/3 of my income. At times in the past, it was even more than that. But I don’t subscribe to a lot of the hypey ways to do it.

I’d like to share some of my big secrets to affiliate marketing success with you, starting today with my favorite one.

Is It Really Worth $1997?

The most popular price point for “big ticket” programs online seems to be $1997, and if you’re like me, you probably wonder if they’re really worth it, or is that just a number settled on inside the secret back room of internet marketing.

The answer is yes, no, maybe, sometimes, and “it depends.”

In reality, the answer relies much less on the product itself, but in the results you get from taking action on what you purchase.

Let’s take a couple of examples that are hot right now: Affiliate Dot Com and my own SIMPLE 2 event.

Back To School Thrills

I was in Staples yesterday, and I don’t know about you, but I love walking through an office supply store during back to school time.

All the binders, the pens, gadgets, etc., charge me up.

It reminds me of how it felt when I was a kid, and the possibilities of a new year of learning were ahead. Wondering if I’d like my teachers, who I’d be friends with, if I’d get to sit next to the girl I had a crush on…

The 3 Cs Of The SIMPLE Path: Connect, Create, Collaborate

Today, I’d like to share a very practical process you can take your business through for accelerated growth.

I call it the Connect-Create-Collaborate model, and it’s the cornerstone of my own success in business. Most people try to do these steps in the wrong order, and struggle with the frustrations of poor results.

If you have the 6 elements of a S.I.M.P.L.E. business in mind, this 3-phase path is sure to lead you to success.

Phase 1: Connect People To Solutions

bob the teacher connectSince you know your industry better than the average customer in that marketplace, you are in a great position to help people locate existing solutions to their problems. You most likely use those resources, tools, and experts yourself – or you did at one point to help you get to where you are now.

Listen to the crowds of potential customers and what they’re griping about. Help them to solve those problems by connecting them to the solutions. This could mean you share a software tool that addresses the issue, or bringing their attention to a leading expert’s training program that’s already up and running.

You can also serve as a filter by reviewing books or courses that help audiences take action and implement those solutions.

During this phase, you’ll likely be able to generate revenue as an affiliate of those products and services. And regardless of the income, by serving the marketplace, you’ll gain credibility and social capital that will prove beneficial in stages 2 and 3 of this model.

Phase 2: Create The Missing Solutions To Fill The Gaps In Your Marketplace

bob the teacher createWhether your Phase 1 takes a few days, or a few months, you’ll come away with an added benefit: market research to discover what people are buying, and what they’re still hungry for. Once you’ve identified what’s missing, you can then create your own products and services to fill in those gaps.

The trouble most entrepreneurs run into is they try this step first. Then they struggle to stand out within a crowded marketplace.

By filling in the gaps, you can serve a niche of your field profitably. And since you already built up a relationship with your audience in Phase 1, you have an eager market that has already told you what they want!

The missing piece you create could deal more specifically to solve additional problems that go unnoticed by the others in your field. Or perhaps you deliver your services and products in ways that the others haven’t considered. For example, your audience may want more individual attention than what the “gurus” in your field are willing to offer.

During this phase, you’ll generate revenue from selling your own products and services, while continuing to earn revenue recommending the Phase 1 solutions you had already identified.

Phase 3: Collaborate With Customers And Competitors For Faster Growth

bob the teacher collaborateOnce you have your own products and services, you gain status in your field as a solution provider. And this allows you to sit at the “big table” in your industry.

You’ll now be able to partner with others as they help you grow your business with referrals and collaborative projects.

An important step in this process is to connect your products and services to an affiliate management software. This provides an incentive to your partners to promote you with the reward of sharing in the revenue (i.e., a commission). If you don’t have such a system in place, you can always swap marketing promotions. But using an affiliate program makes the process fair.

You’ll be able to turn your customers into affiliate partners, too. As each additional customer enjoys your products and services, doorways to their circle of influence become open to you as well.

And you’ll start hearing “yes” more often to those in your field for joint projects and promotions. No longer will you be the “best kept secret” of your field, but the go-to-expert that you deserve to be.

Repeat All 3 Phases For Exponential Growth

Perhaps the best part of these 3 phases is you can repeat the process for continuous growth. In fact, I’ve used this system over a dozen times over the last few years to become the leading teacher of internet marketing strategies for do-it-yourself entrepreneurs. I know your success is inevitable if you follow this path as well.

Bob Jenkins

p.s. In doing my live 3-day SIMPLE event, each of these 3 phases gets a full day of training. There are a lot of moving pieces to get right if you’re going to truly succeed. Get to the next one if you’d like my personal help in growing your business!

Hot Tips For Getting Noticed After A Live Event

Whether you attend industry conferences, or even local Chambers of Commerce meetings, what you do after the event can be as important as what you do while you there.

Here are a few hot tips for your post-live-event social networking efforts.

Upload Photos To Facebook

As soon as possible, upload photos you took during the event to your Facebook profile and fan pages. Create an album for the event. Add captions that make people smile – not just reporting the news. You may also want to link to the websites of the people in the photos to help them get more exposure. Be sure to tag your friends who appear in the images. This will make sure your photos show up on their profile – otherwise the images are virtually invisible to everybody else.

Tag Photos Other People Took

To be honest, tagging photos is a bit of a hassle if you took a lot of pictures. But this is an opportunity for you more than it is a challenge. Since a lot of people still don’t take the time to tag photos, or they may not be friends on Facebook with those in the pictures, you have a chance for added visibility.

When you’re looking through photos from an event and you see someone who hasn’t been tagged – go ahead and tag them. This will help the person who didn’t have the time to tag, will give the tagged person more exposure, and your profile picture and name will appear on the tagged person’s wall for connecting them. Just be sure that the person actually IS in the picture!

Upload Tips Video From The Event

Hopefully, during the event, you shot some video using a Flip or some other camera. Perhaps it was just a quick pan of the crowd, or maybe you created a tip video like this one.

Of course, it won’t do you any good if the video remains on your camera. So be sure to upload the video to YouTube, Facebook, etc. Make sure it’s uploaded directly to Facebook, by the way – not just posted as a link from YouTube. This is the only way you can tag the video with people inside (just like the photos above).

Create A Mashup Video Of Event Photos

A day or two after the event, you should see enough photos online to do this big post-event strategy. Using your images, and those that have been publicly posted, create a mashup video.

This can be done with simple tools like Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, or Camtasia. But I prefer the speed and style of Animoto. Use their music, or upload your own royalty-free music clip and let Animoto do its thing. They have a free version, and a paid version (which I use so I can make longer videos).

Here are two examples of videos I’ve made with Animoto.

This one is from Willie Crawford’s Birthday Bash, March 2009

And this one from Adam Urbanski’s Info Profits Success Bootcamp

Both of these videos were made in mere minutes with Animoto. And the second one features a song written and performed by my mastermind partner Bobby Medina.

Take Action Revise Later

My final tip for you is to make sure you take action and revise later. Speed is a critical element to the success of these strategies. If you wait more than a week to get these things online, they will lose a lot of their impact. When people get home, they are most excited about the event they just attended.

Got another tip for making the most out of an event once you get home? Post it below!

Bob Jenkins

p.s. Hope to see you at a live event soon, and get our pictures together. To see where I’ll be next, check out my internet marketing events schedule.

Pictures And My Presentation From Last Weekend

Last weekend, I was one of Adam Urbanski’s faculty members at his Info Profits Success Bootcamp.

Met some really cool people, so I put together a music video featuring pictures throughout the weekend using Animoto.

Also, during the event, I got great feedback on my “SIMPLE Path To 6-Figures” presentation. So I thought I’d redo it via webinar so people who couldn’t make it could learn these important lessons, too.

You’ll learn…

  • How to shortcut your climb to expert status as a connector
  • When to start promoting your own products and services (the answer to this may surprise you)
  • My #1 source of long term traffic and how to get it.
  • Secrets to pricing your products to reach $10,000/month faster than you ever thought possible.
  • How using your telephone can bring you faster results than struggling to create content and products the hard way.
  • And much more…

This will happen live only once, so be sure to register now so you don’t miss it.

4 Tips For Increasing Your Business

I’m leaving Southern California to head back east after a full 4 days at Adam Urbanski’s Info Profits Success Bootcamp.

Not only was I speaking & teaching at the event, I was also attending to learn and get reminded of actions I should be taking on a regular basis (and some I need to get rid of) to improve my business.

So I shot a quick video to share some of what I got out of the event. Watch and comment below.

Lessons Learned From JV Alert In Philadelphia

I’m enjoying a lazy morning at the Wayside Inn (my parent’s bed and breakfast in Maryland), and about to drive home to North Carolina in a few minutes.

But before I go, I thought I’d send you a few lessons that I learned from this weekend. I was one of the presenters at Ken McArthur’s JV Alert seminar in Philadelphia. In addition to being a speaker (I’ll share more on what I taught another day), I also go to these events to learn as much as possible.

You can learn from all kinds of opportunities at a live event – the speakers presentations, the panel discussions, and the Q&A are obvious. But even in the short conversations in between sessions and especially during lunch or dinner, there’s a lot to pick up.

Here are a few things that stick out in mind from the weekend:
