From the Ask Bob The Teacher mailbag, I received this question from Tony Prodger:

“Would you say that article writing is the best way to attract people to your website and be able to add them to your list?”

Thanks for your question, Tony, here’s my answer.

I would not say that article marketing is the best method. Article marketing is one part of a wider strategy of getting people into your tribe.

It’s most important in my mind to create a destination, or a hub for all your business activity. This comes in the form of a blog.

When you have a blog you can point to it from all your articles, Squidoo lenses, social networking profiles (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), and collect visitor responses in comments.

By having a blog, you’ll also benefit from in-built search engine optimization, so when people are searching for information, they will find your blog.

This doesn’t mean don’t do articles. But write for your blog first, and take your best posts and turn them into articles. Submit first to EzineArticles.com, then submit it with a few changes to the title and some of the text to Article Marketer.

My best training on the topic of setting up a central marketing hub with a blog is UnstoppableBlogging.com and I recommend you use Blogi360 to automate a lot of the processes of a blog. You would also do well to learn from Mike Paetzold, who does more training on how to use WordPress than I do.

With great content on your hub site, and value given in the original traffic sources, you’ll be better able to convert your visitors into subscribers.

Thanks again for your question!
