Yesterday, I created new opt-in boxes on my blog sidebar and between posts to stand out a bit more. I also wrote message #8. Today, I’ll wrap up my 30 days of action steps with two more messages for a total of 10.
Specifically, I will…
- Consider appropriate recommendations to make as an affiliate
- Write message 9
- Write message 10
Before I start, it’s cool that I get to appropriately use one of my favorite words today! This is the penultimate day of the challenge, and if you didn’t know it before, now you know penultimate means the one before the final one.
Let’s get to it!
Any Affiliate Recommendations?
Every message I write has a call to action in it, but not every message should encourage people to buy something different. You don’t want to fatigue your list and get them to expect that every email you send is a pitch. If they wind up buying everything, they can go crazy. No that wouldn’t be your fault entirely, but you do have a responsibility to keep things under control.
That being said, when you do have a resource or recommendation that fits what you are talking about, you have an obligation to share it as a solution. That you get paid as an affiliate (or not) really doesn’t affect your subscriber’s wallet at all.
In any case, since the last couple of messages have been focused on emphasizing the IM Success Library and my Take Action Revise Later philosophy, I want to include at least one affiliate recommendation in either of the last 2 messages.
When I originally created my list of the first 10 messages, I had set up message 9 to be about work and life balance. One of the best resources I can recommend to people in this area is a fitness/business/lifestyle challenge program called FatLossQuickieExperience.com.
However, I do not want to just “blast” a promo about this. Especially since it may come out of left field to be encouraging a fitness related resource while I typically talk about business.
Instead, I want to leverage 2 existing videos I recorded that talk about balancing life and work, and making a commitment to change. Both of these videos were filmed in D.C. in a rather famous location (more “monumental metaphors”), and that’s going to be cool to show them.
Also, the last few messages have been entirely text based. By bringing video back into the messages, we can make a better connection. Since these messages will be coming on the 42nd and 49th days (respectively) of their membership, reinforcing our connection is important.
Write Message 9
As I start to write message 9, the word “Koyaanisqatsi” comes to mind. This is the title of a film that I loved immediately when I saw it. I was in high school (as a student), and my English teacher, Ms. Huba, told us nothing really about it. She just said, listen, watch, and write whatever comes to mind. Get it on Netflix, and you’ll see why it could have such a big impact on a 17 year old.
What does this have to do with our autoresponder challenge?
Well, Koyaanisqatsi means “life out of balance” in the original Hopi. It’s a perfect sentiment for what can happen as we try to grow our businesses at the expense of personal life. This has definitely been part of my growth, unfortunately, and I imagine it’s a common issue for other entrepreneurs as well.
It’s also a cool word, and I’ve learned from Tellman “Shabambo” Knudson that cool, unusual words make for some great subject lines in emails!
In any case, I’ll use this movie, and a version of the high school story I just told you, to get my readers thinking about the (im)balance of their life. Then I’ll send them to the video on my blog, and encourage their comments.
After they watch that first video, I’ll link them to the second video which talks about fitness as a productivity tool. That’s where I’ll recommend they take a look at the Fat Loss Quickie Experience. This will make the recommendation much more logical.
I end the message with a question, which alludes a bit to what’s inside the video. I want to do this because it will make it more likely for the reader to go watch the video to discover the answer.
Write Message 10
With message 9 finished up, I’m now 42 days into content for my readers. I want to do message 10 today as well so I can be a full 7 weeks into the series. This will give me almost 3 weeks until I need to add my 11th message, giving me time to take a few days off from working on the challenge and then optimizing the process even more.
I’ve decided that message 10 is the perfect opportunity for me to start teaching them more about product creation. This is one of the best ways to become a recognized authority. I could start out with this a bit sooner, but the previous 6 weeks have been spent building up trust so that the heavier stuff will be easily taken on.
Personally and professionally, my favorite mode of creating products is with teleseminars. This also happens to be a key topic of my training courses and the principal method of the creation of my own products.
So I’ll use message 10 to layout the steps one needs to take in order to get a teleseminar completed and turned into a product or two.
I want to spell out enough details so that my reader feels like they can do it on their own, but would prefer to have specific guidance to make it even easier. I also want to give them more in-depth training I’ve created, and I can do this by giving them my Module 1 (out of 8) of the Teleseminar Formula course.
To keep track of the effectiveness of this message, I’ll make a redirect again (from within my cPanel). But now that I have Aweber goals and Google Analytics on, I can use those reporting features to know the ROI on message 10.
I also want to remind my readers that my courses are inside the IM Success Library. Teleseminar Formula, specifically, is part of the Diamond membership at IMSL, so if they have that level already (instead of the silver or gold levels), then they have this already as part of their available courses. This reinforces the value of IMSL membership.
With message 10 ready to go (on Day 49), I’m all set with my content for 7 weeks. And that brings me to the end of the action steps I laid out for my 30 Day Challenge!
Tomorrow, I’ll wrap up the challenge by reviewing what’s been accomplished, and lay out a game plan for strengthening my new list even more.
I’ll also be hosting a teleseminar with a very special guest! Justin Premick, the education marketing director at Aweber, will be joining me so I can get him to share even more email marketing secrets with us. Although he’s obviously part of the Aweber team, I’m sure many of his methods will be universal towards autoresponders. But I’ll definitely let him toot the Aweber horn where their features shine above the others.
Until then!
Bob Jenkins

p.s. Remember when you’re writing your messages to keep them “evergreen”. Even though I’m writing them at the start of Fall, I don’t want to use the seasons for example, since eventually people could be reading them in winter, spring or summer. And our friends in the Southern Hemisphere are already in different seasons!

Hi Bob,
Thanks for all the great information about setting up an autoresponder. I never knew there was so much involved. You do a fine job explaining and I am glad I waited for the instructions. Thanks again and I look forward to other lessons.
