With the signature added to most of the emails going out, I’m ready to focus attention again on the front side of my listbuilding: getting more conversions from my website visitors.
Todays action steps:
- Create a better opt-in offer
- Create the download page
- Password protect the page
Tomorrow, we’ll link this new opt-in to the list, but we always begin with the end in mind.
Let’s get started…
What Makes A Great Opt-In Offer?
I realize that most people do not want to sign up just to get more emails. And my conversions for this first week on my squeeze page have been around 15-16%.
Since I want to get my conversions as high as possible, I realize it’s time to add some more value to the process and I need to come up with a better opt-in offer.
The best offers provide instant gratification – not just a series of emails going out over time. That series is where my focus is for long term, but to the visitor, they want stuff NOW.
So the best type of opt-in offer provides something that can be watched (video), listened to (MP3), or read (PDF) right away. And preferably, something they can also act on right away to see that what you’ve shown them was worth their time (and their email address).
Personally, I like my opt-in offers to be either an audio program or a PDF. I like audio programs (i.e., teleseminar recordings) because it gets my voice literally in the head of the subscribers. There is a tremendous amount of psychological power in speaking to your new subscriber through an MP3.
On the other hand PDFs are good because a lot of people like to scan your information quickly, and then read if it’s appealing to them. It’s good for you because any links you put in a PDF are more likely to get clicked on than URLs you say on a teleseminar since people are often away from their computer while listening.
If you can offer BOTH audio and a PDF, that’s great. For now, I’m going to give an MP3 of one of my teleseminars that will appeal to my target audience.
By the way, if you have no audio program yet, why not host a teleseminar of your
own, record the call and use both the live event and the recording as
your offer? Then get it transcribed to create your PDF! You can learn how to do teleseminars from me at TeleseminarFormula.com.You could also give away someone else’s material if you have the rights to do so. Here’s one free report from Jimmy D. Brown you can give away as an example. You can find other PLR content to create a product from here.
How I’m Choosing My Opt-In Offer
To figure out which of my teleseminars (over 300) would fit my audience’s desires at the moment of signup, I’m going to analyze some recent data that I’ve gathered.
Before my trip to Poland this summer, I held a special sale where 7 of my inner circle coaching strategy sessions were packaged together at a special price. After purchase, I asked each buyer which of the 7 were they the most excited about getting.
Here’s how the votes played out…

The top vote getter was the program, “Becoming a Known Expert”. Product Marketing and Product Creation were silver and bronze. Any of these programs would be appropriate for my list, but I’ll go with the winner here because it’s #1, and I have ideas for what to do with the others later in the week.
So my new opt-in offer will include the newsletter as before, but now I’ll give them instant access to the MP3 of Becoming A Known Expert.
By the way, if you’re wondering why I’d give away something that I can easily sell, it’s because I want them to get used to the idea that I overdeliver and undercharge. This way, no matter what price I put a product, they know it’s worth a lot more than that. Also, I’ll be selling the other programs in this set (probably 2-4 of them) later on.
Plus, the Become A Known Expert MP3 is a great overview that will lead the listener to pursue more training from me at either the IM Success Library, or at an individual training program of mine.
Creating The Download Page
To make the download page for my new offer, I’m using a blog page. Since I already have the download page from the Poland Package, I’m simply going to copy the specific audio replay area and it’s mindmap link (I almost always give mindmaps as my handouts), and paste it onto my blog page.
I want to use the blog page and not a marketing pro page within my Blogi360 system because…
Marketing Pro pages don’t include password protection (yet)
Blog pages have the benefit of the sidebar for more real estate/promotion of other training from me
Blog pages allow comments, and marketing pro pages do not. This gives my new subscribers a place to see other people are smart like them (social proof building…)
I add a bit of a welcome message to the download page, and a link to the IM Success Tribe since that’s where the original audio came from. I also add a Re-Tweet this offer on the download page, to help get my new subscribers to help me spread the word.
And in case you’ve always wanted to know how I get a link to re-tweet, I use this code as the hyperlink:
<a href=”http://twitter.com/home?status=RT+@BobTheTeacher:+free+download+today:+how+to+become+the+go-to+expert+http://AskBobTheTeacher.com” target=”new”>RT @BobTheTeacher: free download today: how to become the go-to expert http://AskBobTheTeacher.com</a>
Which then looks like this:
RT @BobTheTeacher: free download today: how to become the go-to expert http://AskBobTheTeacher.com
The + in the link is there to make a space. It’s not needed most of the time, but I got into the habit of it because in some forms, they’ll cut off the link at the first space.
Protect The Page With A Password
In Blogi360 pages, as well as WordPress, you can password protect a post or a page. It’s simply an option under the text editor for the page/post. I’m going to use a password that re-emphasizes what they’re doing on my list, and use it tomorrow when I link the offer to my list.
Of course, passwords can be guessed (or shared!), so I’m not so naive to think that my page is 100% protected (nothing ever is). So I’ll rely on the fact that action is required for people to implement what I’m teaching, and there are plenty of ways for me to get a “sneaky” subscriber to pay me later if they choose to work with me.
Coming up tomorrow, I’ll change the language of my squeeze page to reflect the new offer, and I’ll also change message 1 to give them access to the audio program.
Until then!
Bob Jenkins
