I love surrounding myself with idea people, don’t you? You know the types who have some uncanny ability to process information really fast and come up with an idea that you wish you would have thought of yourself.

For some of my coaching clients, I can be that person. But I also need those people too.

Last weekend, I connected with a few of those people. Specifically, Nancy Marmolejo, Felicia Slattery and Adam Urbanski.

I’ll tell you more about them in a second, but first a teaching point.

Wherever you are in your business, if you start to feel a bit stuck or stale, go to a live event. Although a local meetup or social gathering (holiday parties are coming soon) can suffice, it’s even better when you can get away for a couple of days. Break your routine and force yourself to be in a new scene for a couple of days.

I find the time to think while traveling on a plane, driving down I-95, or even being stuck overnight in an airport can be quite helpful. Of course, I encourage you to NOT stay overnight in an airport, but still…

When you’re amongst your peers instead of staying inside your comfort zone, you get to focus 100% of your attention on your business without the distractions you normally see in your day-to-day. You also get reinvigorated for your mission, connect with potential partners, and learn of shortcuts and pitfalls others have discovered before you.

Now back to the idea people…

Nancy Marmolejo, Bob Jenkins, Felicia SlatteryFirst, meet Nancy Marmolejo (pictured, left) a social media expert and “freanius” (my new word for a freakin’ genius). We had met before, but had the opportunity to spend more time together during a day long mastermind with a handful of people. Then on Friday, she stopped me before a session and gave me a very simple idea of a particular type of image to use in my presentation. Not only was it the perfect way to start the content of my presentation, the imagery will be useful to me in many other areas of my marketing.

Next is Felicia Slattery (pictured, right), who you’ve probably heard me talk about before. She’s a communications expert and helps her clients create and deliver “Signature Speeches”. Even people who aren’t big fans of public speaking discover how much impact they can have when Felicia helps them. We’ve worked together before, but I knew that getting her feedback before and after my talk would prove beneficial. In this case, her ideas of what to cut out were as important as what to put into my talk. Especially with only 90 minutes to deliver a kick-butt teaching session.

Finally, Adam Urbanski, the host of the Attract Clients Like Crazy Bootcamp, gave me the specific clarity to reaching my initial goals for 2010, and then doubling that goal. We spent a day together on Monday, in what he calls a “Mentoring By Adam – MBA”. He helped me to realize that if my strengths in business are around teaching audiences in person (which I love even more than teleseminars), that my primary focus should be on hosting my own live events and workshops. This may seem obvious to you, but he was able to help me craft a specific action plan to make it happen.

Now the trick with any new idea that you get is knowing which one is the best to implement. Once you choose, you need to implement it as fast as possible. I already implemented and saw great results from Nancy and Felicia’s ideas. And you’ll soon see how I’m putting Adam’s ideas into action.

But right now, I’d like to ask you to share a specific idea you picked up from someone else, and how you implemented it. Post a comment below with your story.

Bob Jenkins

p.s. If you want to learn from me in person, look out for my announcement next week about my internet marketing workshop in February. I’ll also be teaching at NAMS 3, which has less than 20 seats left I think (use coupon 100NAMS3 to save $100).
